My Refuge

Psalm 9:9 The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

Psalm 57:1-2 Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.  I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills {his purpose} for me.

According to Webster’s dictionary a refuge provides protection or shelter, as from danger or hardship.  It is a source of help, relief, or comfort in times of trouble.  It is a stronghold that protects by its strength, or a sanctuary that secures safety by its sacredness.  It is a place inaccessible to an enemy.

In our lives we are sometimes oppressed by circumstances or find ourselves surrounded by trouble or hardship.  It is in those times that we search for a refuge. We look for a place where we can be safe and find relief and comfort.  Our hearts long for a shelter that will cover and protect us until the storm has passed.  During those times the Lord offers to become our Refuge.  He invites us to take shelter under His wings and to find a covering there from the storms in our lives.  He offers to give us relief and comfort from our troubles.  As we trust Christ during our times of trials and hardships, we can be assured that He will have mercy on us and that He hears our cries for help.  He will not forsake us or abandon us when we call on him. He will provide a place of refuge for us.  A place that will not only be safe and secure, but also a place where our enemies cannot reach us.  He will truly be a stronghold for us to run to in times of trouble.  Are you oppressed or in a time of trouble today?  Run now to the Lord and take refuge beneath His wings.  He hears your cry for help. Today He invites you to come, take shelter and find protection in Him until the storm has passed.  You can rest safe and secure when you have made the Lord your Refuge.

“A mighty fortress is our God,

A bulwark never failing.”

Prayer Suggestion: Lord, Thank you that I can find shelter beneath your wings. You are my Refuge.  You are my protection and my cover from the storm.  In you I find comfort and relief from my troubles.   I run to you now.
